The Land of Infinite Chances

"I'm sorry."  It's a phrase we are all familiar with because we've heard and said those two words countless times in our lives - people make mistakes and sometimes, those that were harmed, grant forgiveness.  Alexander Pope famously said, "to err is human; to forgive, divine," and I like to believe it is because everyone deserves a second chance.  Sometimes you get more than one extra chance but what happens when you run out?

For those of you that don't know me very well, I fall into the category of individuals that give people too many opportunities to screw up.  Perhaps it comes from a deep seeded instinct to help others, but in reality it's just another example of my inability to say no.  Sadly the results aren't always pretty and I've been hurt countless times, but it hasn't really deterred me from handing out chances like there's no tomorrow.  Eventually, disappointment and bitterness seep into my end of the relationship and I finally realize enough is enough - it's beyond time to give up.

So readers, I'd like to ask you some questions:
  1. How many chances are you willing to give before calling it quits?
  2. What would you do if you were the one running out of chances?
It's not the cheeriest of topics for the week, but the upcoming holiday always makes me think of depressing things like this.  Here's an idea to make me feel better - write me a comment! Maybe if you're nice I'll be back with a new (and much better) post soon =)
